The Reserva Natural El Matuy, is a privately owned natural reserve associated with the Colombian network of Independent Reserves Society. It is located in the Guajira region of Colombia, approximately 70 Km. away from Santa Marta and 90 Km. from Riohacha,

which makes it easy to get from both cities

(1 hour approx.). Relax and rest in a hammock in front of the sea and enjoy our delicious fresh food, made with local ingredients in wood stoves.

In El Matuy you will be able to enjoy an unforgettable time, in which each day you will feel more relaxed and with more energy. If reading a book in a hammock, sleeping in and looking at the stars every night are your type of plans, this is the perfect place for you.

Besides, within El Matuy you will be able to see a tropical dry forest, a lagoon filled with herons and water lilies and enjoy of more than 100 meters of private beach, where you won’t be bothered by anyone. Due to the proximity to the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta (Mountain range that starts at sea level and ends up at 5700 meters with year round snowed peaks) there is one river at each side of the Reserve which mouths are easily reached by walking on the beach.

We also own horses to rent, a beach Volleyball court and we offer several day trips. Some of them are: Hike the Sierra Nevada for about an hour following the course of the Palomino river and then go down the river admiring the forest and birds, using inner tubes as rafts (Tubing). There are also several sites of interest close to El Matuy such as the National Park Tayrona, Quebrada Valencia (Waterfalls) and the Flora and Fauna Sanctuary of Flamingos.

It’s the perfect place to rest, eat well and have fun.
